You’ve now gone through the task type activity - let’s make this a little challenging and learn about one of the important concepts of Cutover runbooks – Task Dependencies.
Follow the instructions below to set up your activity runbooks:
Go to the Cutover Certification workspace, underneath the workspace name, click on the "Templates" section
You should see a template called ‘Task Dependencies Activity’, then Click on the “Create” button on the right of the template
You will see a pop up modal which says “Create runbook from template”: we will need to edit some info here:
You will then see 2 options, Select “Choose Start Date” > then put in today’s date + time now.
Next, start the runbook in Live Run by clicking the play button located at the top right.
A pop up modal will appear once you click the start:
Set it to the “Live” option
Communication settings = “off“
Check the “Rebaseline the start of the runbook to the current time?”
Click “START RUN”
Click the first task to start your learning! make sure you read the prompt that comes up!
If you want to see the prompt text again, click on the task title and then find the “Description” box on the right hand side.
If you would like to restart the activity again, use the template to create a new runbook again.
In this activity, you will be able to do 2 exercises, you’ll be prompted
the instructions as you go, but you can also see it below:
Exercise 1: You should see there are 5 tasks below (Task A - E):
Each of them has a description on the title on where they should be.
Now try and see if you can edit the dependencies for the 4 tasks (Task B - E) so they are in the correct order:
To edit the dependencies, click on the task title, then you will see the edit panel on the right
Find the "Dependencies" section, then change the "Predecessors" section. ***Hint: when 2 tasks are parallel to each other, it means they should have the same predecessor(s), so double check that.
Check the nodemap view and see if you have got it right.
Once you are done, come back and complete this task and go to the next task for answer before executing Task A - E
Exercise 1: Answer
This is what the tasks dependencies should look like for Task A - E
Task B, Task C & Task D should have the Task A as the predecessor
Task E should have Task B, C & D as the predecessor
Exercise 2: Rearrange the Practice Runbook
Click on the Linked child runbook title below the instruction task (It should open in a new tab)
Edit the Runbook dependencies so it looks like the screenshot below
Execute the child runbook once you are confident
If you forget what you need to do - You can find the instructions within the "Pages" section in your Child Runbook!
