Nodemap - Navigation and Selection

Easily navigate and manage tasks in the Nodemap using panning, zooming, keyboard shortcuts, and multiple selection methods, with visual cues to keep your focus on the tasks that matter.

Navigation

Users can navigate by:

  • Panning - click and drag the Nodemap in any direction

  • Zoom - using the mouse wheel or trackpad. Depending on your zoom level, the display automatically adjusts to prioritize visual clarity—simplifying and bolding nodes when zoomed out, showing tooltips when space is limited, and revealing more detail as you zoom in.

  • Mini map - click on the mini map to navigate to specific point

  • Using the keyboard

    • ‘c’ to re-center view (centers on selection if exists)

    • Shift + Arrow keys to pan

    • z/x to zoom in / out

  • Auto pans when mouse moves next to the edge of the viewport while dragging

Highlight Mode

Highlight Mode is available when you apply a stream or filter from the left-hand panel. Once enabled, an icon appears in the bottom-left corner to indicate when filters are applied or when Highlight Mode is active.

Unlike standard filtering, Highlight Mode keeps the full plan visible while highlighting only matching nodes, making it easier to see them in context—ideal for examining how specific tasks or nodes fit within the overall plan.

Note: Highlight Mode is most effective in Nodemap view or Task List view. For more information, see our Highlight Mode article.

Keyboard Shortcuts and Node Selection

Elements on the Nodemap can be selected in multiple ways:

  • Click: Click a node or link to select it.

  • Multi-select:

    • Hold Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) to add additional nodes to your selection.

    • With an existing node selected, hold Shift and click another node to select all connected nodes between them. If the nodes aren’t connected, it behaves like a regular click.

    • Hold Shift and click-drag to select multiple nodes at once. Hold Space while doing this to move the bounding box as a whole, similar to drawing tools.

  • Select All: Press Cmd + A to select all nodes.

  • Center View: Press C to center the viewport on your selection. For multiple nodes, the viewport centers on the average position of the selection.

  • Navigation with Arrow Keys:

    • Up / Down: Focus on the closest connected parent or child.

    • Left / Right: Focus on visually adjacent nodes.

    • Press Space to toggle selection of a node.

Additional Notes:

  • Your selection cannot include both nodes and links at the same time.

  • Hovering or selecting an element displays tooltips or inline details.

  • When in selection mode, other elements are faded out to emphasize selected nodes.

  • Switching between list and nodemap view preserves your selection.

  • Elements can be deselected by clicking empty space or pressing Escape.

  • Hovering or selecting an element prioritizes its control points over any elements beneath it.

Visual indicators

See key task details at a glance, including start times, delays, critical path, dependencies, comments, and gaps between tasks.

Fixed Start
Fixed start tasks are shown as clock hands within the node, similar to the task list. Hovering or selecting the node reveals the fixed start time. Once the task becomes actionable, the indicator disappears, as it is no longer relevant.

Late Tasks
Tasks can be late in several ways:

  • Overrunning: The task exceeds its planned duration.

  • Delayed start: Time elapses between when a task becomes startable and when it actually starts.

  • Pushed by previous tasks: Delays from preceding tasks.

Late or delayed tasks are shown with a warning circle, which becomes more prominent as the delay increases (between 5 minutes and 1 hour). The indicator appears only after 5 minutes of delay.

RTO Start / End
RTO tasks are indicated with both a label prefix and a dark triangle to the left of the node.

Critical Path
Tasks on the critical path have a highlighted light red background, as do the links connecting them.

External Predecessors / Successors
If a task has predecessors or successors outside the filtered view, the count is shown in a small circle above or below the node. Clicking the circle adds those dependencies to the current filtered view. See the Dependencies section for more information.

Comments
Tasks with comments display a small comments icon next to the node. (Currently not clickable.)

Description
Tasks that have a description show an indicator. (Currently not clickable.)

Float
Dashed links indicate a gap between a task starting and the previous task finishing, most commonly introduced by fixed start tasks. Zooming in reveals the exact float duration, which can also be thought of as task redundancy.

Export

Download Views: Export an image of any filtered nodemap view for reporting, sharing, or offline use. This makes it easy to share updates with stakeholders who don’t have full platform access.

Just click on the download button and a png file will be created and available for you to view and save.

Best Practices for Using the Nodemap

  • Plan dependencies early: Use drag-and-drop and direct dependency editing during planning to avoid confusion later in execution.

  • Keep it clean: Regularly use filtering, highlight mode, and hidden dependency traversal to focus only on the tasks and relationships that matter most.

  • Leverage bulk actions: Use bulk edit or move functions when updating multiple tasks to save time and reduce manual effort.

  • Use indicators wisely: Pay attention to lateness, fixed starts, and comments shown in the Nodemap to quickly identify potential risks.

  • Keyboard shortcuts: Learn the most common shortcuts to navigate and edit faster.

  • Save context with downloads: Export filtered views as images when sharing updates with stakeholders.

  • Stay audit-ready: Actions like task edits or dependency changes are logged, so maintaining discipline in planning helps keep execution clean and traceable.
